WA Health’s $4 million proposal to use Highview Park as a 12 month parking facility is now off the table.
Throughout a recent information gathering process the City received approximately 280 feedback forms from the community. 64 per cent of these were in opposition to the proposal, 31 per cent in support and 5 per cent unsure.
Key concerns emerged from this process including traffic management and competing demands within the area. These issues highlighted the difficulty of ensuring a decent return to the community.
In the short term, the City currently does not have the funds to redevelop Highview Park’s facilities and amenities. Should redevelopment be planned at a later date, the interests of our community and user groups will be considered as a priority.
In 2008 the City commenced the process of preparing a long term vision and masterplan for Highview Park. The draft masterplanning for the redevelopment of Highview Park has been completed by Blackwell and Associates in conjunction with James Christou and Partners.
Current stakeholders including residents within the vicinity of Highview Park were consulted throughout the process and ensure a plan that meets community needs.
The project is pending funding and scheduling by the City and the next stage would be a detailed building design for a multi-use central building.
