Water is an extremely important resource, and in Western Australia we are coming close to using more water than recharge can accommodate. Part of making the best use of this resource is improving the way that we dispose of our wastewater, and how we use our scheme and ground water. The City of Nedlands became a Waterwise Council in 2011, endorsed by the Water Corporation. We aim to lead by example, and inspire our residents to adopt water-saving actions in their own homes.
Reuse of greywater in homes is restricted to the use of systems that are approved by WA Health, and you will find that they operate using below ground disposal. A list of these is attached to the right of this page.
With the dwindling supplies of water available for public consumption, residents are encouraged to purchase rainwater tanks for use on their gardens during summer (residents must gain City building approval prior to installation).
