Youth Activities and Information

The City of Nedlands has a lot to offer for young people. The City runs programs for young people each school holiday and provides other activities during term time.

Recycle-Me Mural

The City is undertaking an exciting arts project at the Mt Claremont Community Centre from July to October 2012. Local young people will work with a professional artist to design and construct a mural using recycled materials. Community members will be invited to assist with the construction of the mural and give ideas on the mural design.

Young people
The City is looking for local young people 12 to 25 years who have a keen interest in the arts, especially working with recycled materials.
You will work alongside other young artists and an arts mentor to design and construct a mural using recycled materials.
Participants must be available for a week of workshops in the July school holidays and one day a week from July to October 2012.
Applications for the youth project team close 5pm Thursday 14 June.

Community
Community members of all ages are invited to be involved from suggesting design aspects to helping construct the mural.

Pop art
Keep your eye out around the City as art installations will be ‘popping’ up around the place for a short period of time.

To find out more about this project or to register your interest as a young person or community member contact the Community Development Officer (Youth and Children) on 9273 3579 or council@nedlands.wa.gov.au

Youth Grant (Initiative Fund)

The grant is open to all young City of Nedlands residents between 12 and 21 years of age. Organisations providing services to young people living within the City are also welcome to apply. The purpose of the fund is to recognise and encourage the initiatives of local young people to participate in and contribute to their community. Projects eligible for funding support are those that provide an opportunity for youth participation in the wider community and that support artistic, cultural, community, educational, professional, technological, sporting, recreational, personal and/or social development.

Skate Workshops

The City runs skateboarding workshops for young people each year. The workshops are facilitated by accredited coaches from Skateboarding Australia and held at Nedlands Skate Park. The workshops cater for beginners and intermediate levels.

Libraries

The City has two libraries to assist students with their academic research. Many young people and students are unaware of the wealth of information available to them at their local library. Free internet access is available and membership is free.
