A Housing Diversity Study was conducted in 2006 to discover the community’s needs in relation to housing types in the City.
The study involved interviews, workshops and a survey being sent to all residential landowners with questions which related to their current housing types, their land tenure and ownership details and what their preferred housing type (e.g. house, apartment, townhouse etc) was in the next 10 years.
This resulted in the selection of 11 areas which will be used as a starting point for further redevelopment studies to look at providing housing choice in well planned precincts.
1. Mt Claremont
2. Alfred Rd
3. Mayfair St
4. Hampden Rd
5. Stirling Hwy A
6. Stirling Hwy B
7. Stirling Hwy C
8. Broadway
9. University
10. Dalkeith
11. Kirkwood
Council resolved to undertake these studies in the following order:
1. Stirling Hwy A, B and C (draft plan awaiting permission to advertise from State Government)
2. Dalkeith (2010 community consultation)
3. Hampden and Broadway (2010 community consultation, 2011 draft plan)

As studies are completed for each of areas listed above, the new development guidelines will be included into Town Planning Scheme No. 3.
