Verge Development

The City may approve a permit for owners, occupiers or developers to develop the verge in front of their property. This should enhance and integrate with the local streetscape and/or greenway corridors.

No permit is required from Council for planting lawn on verges. Applications are required for all other developments including:

• garden beds;
• shrubs; 
• kerbing;
• paving;
• retaining walls;
• pipelines and below ground reticulation systems; and
• artificial grass installation.

Permits can be obtained by completing and submitting a Verge Development Application form.

The City's verge development objectives are to:

• Develop an attractive and safe streetscape; 
• Encourage alternatives to verge parking where possible;
• Encourage owners and occupiers of premises to maintain their street verges;
• Ensure verge treatments comply with the Local Laws;
• Ensure verge treatments do not create a hazard or obstruction; and to
• Encourage landscaping that conserves water.
