Brush up and make a splash to win some cash

Calling all potential Picassos, would-be Warhols and budding Banksys – entries for the City of Nedlands 2017 Emerge: Youth Art Awards are now open with a $2,000 prize pool up for grabs.

Now in their fifth year, the awards are open to people aged 12 to 25 for art works using print, photography, painting or drawing.

The Open Award can be entered by anyone across WA while the Resident’s Award is for people living within the City of Nedlands.

A People’s Choice Award is also given at a free exhibition showcasing competition entries.

“They say a picture paints a thousand words and the Emerge: Youth Art Awards are a real chance to be creative,” City of Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said.

“Nedlands prides itself on being inclusive and embracing this philosophy has attracted the talents of many artistic and creative people to the area over the years.

“It’s an asset that should be nurtured and encouraged to grow naturally, helped by our strong facilitation role that helps to support and develop creative expression.”

Entries close 30 July – for more details on how to enter, visit the Emerge: Youth Arts Awards page.

The awards exhibition will be held at John Leckie Pavilion on 19 August.
