The City of Nedlands is situated just 7km from Perth and stretches from the banks of the beautiful Swan River to the edge of the Indian Ocean. A population of more than 21,000 lives in the suburbs of Nedlands, Dalkeith, Mt Claremont, Swanbourne, Karrakatta and parts of Floreat and Shenton Park. On a chilly but clear winter’s day on Tuesday 2 July 2019, 268 Hollywood Primary School students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 joined the Friends of Hollywood Reserve to plant native seedlings in the local bushland.

Six groups of students visited Hollywood Reserve from 9am until midday, working diligently to plant native shrubs and trees, including watering and staking.

This year, Tresillian Arts Centre will play host to the Emerge: Youth Art Awards Exhibition for the very first time.

Co-ordinated by the City of Nedlands and the Nedlands Youth Advisory Council, Emerge is an annual arts competition and exhibition showcasing the original work of talented young artists aged 12-25, from print and photography to painting, drawing and sculpture.

The exhibition is free to the public and will be held at Tresillian Arts Centre, 21 Tyrell Street Nedlands, from 2pm-6pm on Saturday 27 July.

There have been reports of several brushtail possum deaths across Nedlands in the last 18 months. City of Nedlands officers have confirmed that one recent possum death was attributed to high doses of rodenticide which is commonly used as mice and rat bait. Homeowners may hear noise in their roof space and mistakenly identify possums as rats, and then progress to commence a baiting program.

As a native marsupial, possums are protected under State and Commonwealth legislation and cannot be harmed in any way. Brushtail possums occur throughout the metropolitan region and usually live...
