FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) is coming this November

The WA State Government requires all local governments in Perth and Peel to move to FOGO by 2025. Therefore, the City of Nedlands will commence residential FOGO collection in November 2022, which will allow food to be added to the existing lime green lid residential garden waste bin. So it can be recycled into top-quality compost, instead of being disposed of in Landfill. This initiative is expected to achieve over a 65% waste recovery target in comparison to the City’s current recovery rate of 51%.

Benefits of FOGO

  • Reduction in the waste that goes to landfill: the City’s studies and audits have shown that more than half the waste disposed of via the general waste bins within the city is organic waste. By diverting this waste to compost, rather than landfill, we can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and have a lasting impact on the environment.
  • Diverting organic waste from landfill will result in savings in the State Government’s landfill levies which will impact annual waste charges.
