Plastics in the Indian Ocean with Repair Lab

Plastics in the Indian Ocean with Repair Lab

PLASTICS IN THE INDIAN OCEAN   With many of us aware of the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’, we focus on plastic in our local Indian Ocean for our June Branch meeting. We welcome UWA Professor Anas Ghadouani, leader of the AquaticEcology and Ecosystem Studies Research Group, and Alison Dorn from Tangaroa Blue, the Australian organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris.   Come and learn how Tangaroa Blue has used the analysis of plastic from over 15,000 beach clean-ups to reduce plastic waste entering the ocean. Meet members of a local coastal clean-up crew.   Professor Ghadouani will give the view of the state of the Indian Ocean and main risks from Western Australia. Learn what you can change in your everyday life to help the Ocean and the creatures that live there stay healthy.   We will also have Repair Lab present, as one way to keep waste out of the ocean is to keep our current possessions in good repair and throw away less. The Repair Lab already has eight members coming who may help you with mechanical, electrical, dressmaking, sewing, mending and jewellery repairs.   So please bring along items that you would like to be repaired from 9amonwards and see what the Repair Lab team can do!   ·       Thursday 13 June 2019 ·       Mount Claremont Community Centre, Montgomery Avenue Mount Claremont 6010 (parking available) ·       Repair Lab 9am onwards ·       Meeting 10am till 12 noon ·       Entry $5 members; $7 non-members ·       Morning Tea and a warm welcome!
