Councillor Wetherall has been active in local government for about 10 years. His main aims have been to focus on cost-effective, high-quality services to ratepayers and electors and to respect ratepayers’ property rights in their dealings with the local authority.  Recent progress has been the introduction of a new verge tree policy, implementing a more ratepayer-friendly residential heritage policy, supporting essential infrastructure and helping to keep rate increases low.  Present interests include seeking out opportunities for the provision of underground power for those parts of the City that do not yet have it, and seeing through to completion the new Local Planning Strategy 3 that is now very much overdue.

He has lived in the City of Nedlands for more than 20 years and supports the residential character of the City and local businesses. He wants to ensure Nedlands remains a great place to work, live and play.  He retired four years ago from Curtin University where he was previously head of the School of Biomedical Sciences.  His special interests were in genetics and the science of the immune system.  He holds an adjunct appointment with Curtin University and retains a current research interest.
