Financial Support provided by the City

City of Nedlands residents, ratepayers, suppliers, lessees, businesses and groups; both community & sporting are experiencing the effects of COVID-19, including financial impacts and the City has listened and taken action. 

At a Special Council meeting held on the 14 April 2020 a Coronavirus Pandemic Response Plan was approved to assist residents, community groups and business to support them through any potential hardship they may be experiencing as part of this pandemic. Details of this support package are outlined below and is effective from the 16 March 2020 when the State of Emergency was declared.  This will remain in place for as long as Council deem it necessary. 

To access this support package, evidence of hardship will need to be presented:  

  • Documentation from the employer or Centrelink that the person or their household partner has lost their job, or their income has been reduced by 25% or more since 16 March 2020. 
  • For businesses, financial documentation, Centrelink information or the provision of a statutory declaration that the business’ income has declined by 25% or more since March 16th 2020.  
Residents and community groups

  • Three months’ rent free terms for residential tenants of City-owned properties. 
  • No rent charged for not-for-profit groups, community groups and clubs using City-owned properties, and equipment storage fees will not apply (until the end of the declared emergency period). Note – this excludes leases to State Government.

  • Three months rent free terms for commercial tenants of City-owned properties.

The City is currently preparing a draft 2020/21 Budget for Council consideration, based on a zero overall dollar value increase on rates and waste fees.

Interest free payment deferment to the end of the declared emergency plus three months, for infringements and prosecutions will be provided.

A plan is underway to advance a suite of shovel-ready capital expenditure projects, such as underground power, to ensure the City is in a strong position to access any stimulus funding opportunities that may become available post pandemic.
