Don’t get the urge to charge for parking on your verge

It's unlawful to charge someone to park on your verge.

Be warned: if you live within the City of Nedlands and have received a letter from a business or individual stating there are opportunities for you to receive payment for a parking space, they’re wrong.

Home-owners or occupiers can authorise a vehicle to park on the verge near their property – but it’s unlawful to charge for parking there and penalties of up $500 for each instance may apply.

The city’s current Town Planning Scheme also prohibits the renting or leasing of parking spaces on private property and requires a development approval to modify the property use from standard residential land use.

Rangers are continuing to monitor parking to ensure parking restrictions are enforced and amenity is maintained within the local area for residents.
