Footpaths

The City has an extensive footpath network exceeding 140 kilometres in length.

This network connects the four Council wards; Dalkeith, Coastal, Hollywood and Melvista, allowing for safe off street pedestrian movement. An additional 13 kilometres of Principal Shared Paths (PSP) is also available in key areas to allow cyclists and pedestrians to also use these spaces.

Ongoing footpath upgrades involve removing outdated and often damaged 600mm x 600mm square concrete slab paths and installing poured concrete footpaths. As part of the Strategic Community Plan, the City is creating new, safer footpaths by eliminating gaps in pathways.

Whenever work that impacts footpaths is undertaken, the organisation responsible for the works is required to provide safe access to ensure pedestrians can still safely move around. In some instances, this may include temporary paths or detours.
