Capital Projects

Each year, the City administration reviews the future listed projects according to a number of factors to make recommendations for Council consideration as part of the annual budget adoption. The latest rolling Capital Work Program can be found on the City’s Corporate Documents page. Below is archived, previous Capital Works Programs recommended to assist in tracking the history and movements in project scheduling and reasons for these adjustments.

Road Projects

The Avenue | IN PROGRESS

Update as of 21 November 2025

ROAD CLOSURE - Intersection of The Avenue, Gallop Road, Birdwood Parade, and Bruce Street
Starting Monday 24 November until Friday 28 November, the abovementioned intersection will be closed to all road users for the purpose of installing a roundabout.
The road closure will be in place for the entire duration of the week (24/7) and detours will be in place for all road users. Cyclists are kindly reminded that the area is unsafe to travel through.
The City is working hard with our contractor to get the roundabout installation complete prior to the Christmas break. We apologise for this short inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

 

Update as of 27 October 2025

WCP Civil Pty Ltd has been engaged by City of Nedlands to undertake road rehabilitation works along The Avenue, Nedlands.

Works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, and are expected to be completed by late February 2026, weather permitting. Works are currently scheduled to occur on weekdays only but this is subject to change at any time.

During construction, there may be temporary traffic and access restrictions while machinery operates in front of properties. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, and vehicular access will be restored as soon as practicable each day.

If you need to enter or exit your property while works are underway, please speak with the onsite traffic controllers who will assist you safely. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this period and will make every effort to minimise disruptions to residents and road users.

Information for Local Cyclists

To ensure cyclists safety there will be 24/7 detours in place for cyclists for the duration of the works. All cyclists are encouraged to observe the detours.

  Public Open Space Projects

Sports Lighting Upgrades | IN PROGRESS

Update as of 1 October 2024

The City of Nedlands are working with various sporting groups to upgrade the sports lighting at some of our ovals.

It is planned to upgrade lighting in 2025 at the following sporting reserves:

  • David Cruickshank Reserve
  • College Park Lower Oval
  • Charles Court Reserve.

 Playground Upgrades 

Harris Park Playground Upgrade | IN PROGRESS 

Update as of 15 April 2026

The City is upgrading the playground at Harris Park following a safety and maintenance assessment in line with Australian Standards

Miracle Recreation Equipment have been contracted to carry out the works, with an anticipated start date of Wednesday 22nd April 2026 until Friday 22nd May 2026 (weather and site conditions permitting). Fencing will be put in place on 20 April 2026 to ensure the safety of visitors while maintenance works are undertaken.

All Abilities Play Space Closure | 20 APRIL - 24 APRIL 2026

Update as of 15 April 2026

The Jo Wheatley All Abilities Play Space will be closed from 20 April to 24 April 2026 for scheduled maintenance, weather permitting.

During this period, contractors will be applying non-slip timber preservation oil. This work is essential to maintain safety, extend the life of the timber surfaces, and ensure the play space remains accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.

For safety reasons, the entire play space will be unavailable for use during this period.

Patrons may re-enter the park from Saturday 25 April 2026, once the application is dry.
