Road Upgrades

Smyth Road (Between Aberdere Road and Carrington Street)

Update as of 6 September 2023

The intersection of Aberdare Road and Smyth Road is scheduled to be closed on Tuesday 12 September from 9:00am - 5:00pm

To accommodate motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow, detour routes will be put in place to provide alternative access during the closure periods. Motorists are strongly encouraged to follow the detour signs and plan for potential delays due to the additional travel time.

Experienced traffic controllers will be on-site to manage traffic flow and assist anyone needing access to properties within the construction area.

It's important to note that the specified closure dates are subject to change based on weather conditions. Should any adjustments be necessary, the community will be promptly informed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these vital infrastructure improvements are being carried out.

    Road Rehabilitation Work

Rochdale Road, Between Alfred Road and Haldane Street

Update as of 23 August 2023

DM Roads PTY LTD has been contracted by the City of Nedlands to carry out the rehabilitation of Rochdale Road between Alfred Road and Haldane Street

Work is anticipated to commence in September and be completed by November 2023, (weather permitting) on weekdays between 7am – 7pm.

The works to be undertaken include:

    • demolition and installation of new kerbs and footpaths
    • replacement of crossovers and aprons to ensure compliance with the City’s crossover specifications
    • upgrades to soakwells
    • removal and replacement of the existing road surface to address failings, and
    • temporary line marking prior to Main Roads installing permanent line marking.

Some preparatory works will be undertaken prior to the works commencing including service location and paint markings.

Reticulation along the kerb will be capped by the Contractor during the installation and then reinstated. The City requests that homeowners test and report any issues relating to irrigation to DM Roads within two weeks of reinstallation.

We understand that these works will cause some disruptions and apologise for any inconvenience caused. The rehabilitation of Rochdale Road is critical to ensuring our road network is maintained and safe to travel and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

    Parking Restrictions

Two weeks prior to the works starting, and through the duration of the project, parking on the northbound lane of Strickland Street and the southbound lane of Adderley Street will be temporarily prohibited.

This proposed change in traffic flow is essential to allow for an appropriate flow of vehicles as part of the proposed detours. The affected sides of the street where parking will be temporarily restricted will be clearly marked with temporary signs. We ask that you observe the proposed changes, in order to minimize the risk of receiving a warning or fine from the City’s Rangers.

Should you have any enquiries, please contact the City’s Representative, Peter Seed on (08) 9273 3500 or pseed@nedlands.wa.gov.au
