Community Grants

The City of Nedlands supports local groups, organisations and individuals to deliver community-focused projects and events — including street parties — through our Community Grants Fund.

This fund provides small grants to initiatives that foster community spirit, promote inclusivity, and deliver direct benefits to the local community. We encourage applications that help build stronger neighbourhood connections, support social interaction, and bring residents together.

What can be funded?

  • Community events
  • Festive season celebrations
  • Street parties
  • Initiatives that support people with disabilities and their carers.

Funding available:

  • Street parties: up to $250
  • Other events and projects: up to $1,000

Application deadline:

Applications must be submitted at least four (4) weeks prior to the proposed event date to allow sufficient time for assessment.

Youth Grants Fund

The Youth Grants Fund supports and celebrates the contributions of young people in the City of Nedlands by providing financial assistance for community-focused initiatives.

This fund encourages youth involvement in a wide range of socially positive activities, based on the belief that:

  • Community participation is valuable; and
  • Young people’s engagement in the community should be actively supported and encouraged.

Who can apply?

Young people aged 12 to 21 years who live within the City of Nedlands.

  • Artistic or cultural development
  • Educational or professional growth
  • Technological innovation
  • Sporting or recreational pursuits
  • Personal or social development.

Important notes:

  • Projects or activities that have already started before assessment are not eligible.

  • Grants are limited to one per financial year per applicant.
  • A maximum of four applicants per event or organisation will be funded annually.
  • Applicants must complete their own applications (exceptions assessed case-by-case).
  • The City of Nedlands must be acknowledged in any publicity.

Edward Street celebrates 10 years of community spirit

2025 marked a special milestone for Edward Street ... a decade of annual street parties bringing neighbours together.

Residents enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea featuring homemade treats, shared recipes, and conversations. The event also included a warm welcome for new neighbours and a visit from special guests all the way from the UK. With 22 adults and 9 children joining in the fun, the day was filled with laughter, connection, and celebration.

Congratulations, Lachlan Russell

Lachlan was a key player in the U15 WA Cricket team during the School Sport Australia Championship from March 30–April 4, 2025.

Representing Western Australia on the national stage, Lachlan showcased his talent and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Thanks to the team's hard work and determination, WA proudly brought home the bronze medal!

Community BBQ at Kingsway Methodist Church

During April 2025, Kingsway Methodist Church in Nedlands came alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the annual Street BBQ – a heart-warming afternoon with locals, new neighbours, and church members gathering to enjoy delicious BBQ, fun games on the school oval, and plenty of laughs.

One of the highlights? A performance by a senior ukulele group that had everyone smiling and tapping their feet.

Celebrating the Neervoort sisters

Huge congratulations to Ellie and Isabella Neervoort for their outstanding performances in Australian Surf Lifesaving.

Ellie represented the WA Team at the Interstate Championships, earning a well-deserved Bronze Medal.

Isabella travelled to North Kirra in Queensland for the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships, with the support of a City of Nedlands Youth Grant. She won an Individual Silver Medal in the U17 two-kilometre beach run and a team Gold Medal in the Open 2x1km beach run.

Friday Night Lights shines bright at Shenton College!

With some support from a City of Nedlands Community Grant, Shenton College hosted an exciting Friday Night Lights basketball tournament on Friday, 13 June.

Shenton College, Churchlands and Newman College battled it out in a round-robin tournament for the perpetual Tri-Schools Cup. Huge congrats to the Churchlands Chargers for taking home the trophy!

Player highlights:
MVPs: Jordan & Sara (Churchlands)
Best Defensive Players: Theo & Mila (Shenton College)

Events like these bring people together, creating a great buzz and fun memories.

Sam Lewis, Shenton College history maker

Sam and team, representing Shenton College and UWA Boat Club, smashed their debut at the Australian Rowing Championships in Tasmania, taking out the B Final win in the Schoolboys Coxed Quad. This was the first-ever nationals for Shenton College!
With 9+ training sessions a week for six months (while juggling school & exams!), the dedication is next level. Sam and his teammates were then off to Sydney to compete, having been selected in the Pathways state team!
