Environmental improvement and My Waterwise Garden

Environmental improvement

The City of Nedlands is dedicated to minimising its impact on our environment. We promote sustainable living, preserving energy and water resources, and conserving trees and native bushland.

Waterwise Council

The City of Nedlands was awarded Gold WaterWise status by the Water Corporation in May 2025.

The Gold Waterwise endorsement is a testament to the City’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and water efficiency in our community.

Initiatives included:

  • Adoption of Local Planning Policy 1.3: Sustainable Design – Residential, to ensure new development is constructed and functions in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Ongoing re-design of irrigation in parks and reserves including reduction of under-utilised turf areas and implementing “hydro-zoning” by planting native species.
  • Regular meter reading and irrigation efficiency checks.
  • Ongoing training and education for City staff to stay up to date with contemporary waterwise practices and products.

Energy efficiency

Would you like to know how much your appliances are costing to run? Are you interested to know how many tonnes of greenhouse gases you are contributing to the atmosphere? Borrow a Power-Mate from the Nedlands or Mt Claremont library and test your appliances.
