Learn to Sail at Nedlands Yacht Club - Tackers 1

Set sail with confidence and fun!

Nedlands Yacht Club invites young adventurers aged 7–12 to join the Tackers Level 1 – Having Fun program, a beginner-friendly sailing course designed to introduce kids to the joy of sailing in a safe and engaging environment.

No prior sailing experience is needed—just a love of water and a sense of adventure! Led by qualified Australian Sailing instructors, participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including:

• Rigging and launching a boat

• Steering with a tiller extension

• Tacking and gybing

• Sailing around a course

• Basic sailing rules, weather awareness, and knot tying.

The program blends on-water learning with beach games to ensure every session is filled with fun and discovery.

Course Details:

• Age Group: 7–12 years

• Prerequisite: Water confidence

• Equipment Provided: Boats, life jackets (PFDs), and all sailing gear

• What to Bring: Sailing clothes and a snack for morning tea.

Course Outcome: By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently sail a small boat, understand basic sailing techniques, and earn their Tackers 1 Completion Certificate.
