Mastering speed, strategy and independence
The Tackers Level 3 – Sailing Fast program is the final step in the Tackers journey for kids aged 7–12. Designed for those who’ve completed Tackers 2, this course focuses on refining sailing techniques, building independence on the water, and learning how to sail faster and smarter—all while keeping the fun front and centre.
Under the guidance of Australian Sailing qualified instructors, participants will sail solo, explore advanced manoeuvres, and take part in exciting games and challenges designed to boost confidence and skill.
Key learning areas include:
- Roll tacking and gybing (technique and theory)
- Stopping in confined areas
- Sailing backwards
- Racing skills on triangle and trapezoid courses
- Tactical mark roundings
- Understanding and applying the five sailing essentials:

- Centreboard position
- Boat trim
- Boat balance
- Course made good
- Sail trim.
Course Details:
- Age Group: 7–12 years
- Prerequisites: Water confidence and completion of Tackers 2
- Equipment Provided: Boats, life jackets (PFDs), and all sailing gear
- What to Bring: Sailing clothes and a snack for morning tea.
Course Outcome: By the end of the course, participants will be able to sail confidently and independently, apply advanced sailing techniques, and receive their Tackers 3 Completion Certificate.
