Mt Claremont Community Centre has received a fresh delivery of newly planted trees! ðŠīðŋ
They’ve been planted around the outdoor playground and alongside the Mt Claremont tennis courts. In years to come they'll provide some much needed shade through summer âïļ
This season we’re planting a mix of 25 tree species from the City’s Approved Tree Species List. This includes many native trees such as the WA Peppermint Tree, Callistemon viminalis, Melaleuca lanceolata, Eucalyptus Platypus ‘Moort’ and Eucalyptus toditiaia. Fun fact: the Eucalyptus toditiaia is an endemic species to the Nedlands area!
A few non-native tree species will also be planted this year, including the Macadamia tree (which is a food source for the Carnaby’s Cockatoo), Pistacia, Liquidambar and Chinese Elm.
Tree species diversity is a crucial aspect of keeping our urban forest healthy. A diverse forest is more resistant to pests, diseases, and climate change impacts - which means we get a more resilient canopy ð
