Worms bring sustainable practices into Hollywood Primary School!

Hollywood Primary School is digging deep into sustainability with the launch of brand-new worm farms, proudly supported by the City of Nedlands.

Last week, Year 6 Sustainability Captains Theo, Sana and Shanice — joined by next year’s eager captain hopefuls Roni, Joyce and Olivia — rolled up their sleeves alongside Kev and Debbie from The Worm Shed to set up the farms and learn the secrets to keeping worms happy and productive.

The students will now lead the charge in recycling food scraps from the school’s Crunch & Sip program, feeding them to the worms and turning waste into nutrient-rich fertiliser. It’s a win-win for the environment and the school’s thriving veggie patch, which boasts tomatoes, snap peas, strawberries, carrots — and even dragon fruit!

This hands-on initiative not only reduces landfill but also teaches students the power of circular systems and environmental stewardship.
