The City of Nedlands is taking proactive steps to reduce the impact of flooding across local neighbourhoods.
As part of a long-term flood mitigation strategy, the City is working to improve drainage infrastructure and prioritise upgrades in areas most at risk. While permanent solutions require careful planning and budgeting, a number of key initiatives are already underway.
✅ Achieved so far
- Enhanced stormwater maintenance through revised pit cleaning regimes
- Completion of a citywide Drainage Infrastructure Upgrade Study
- 57 priority drainage projects identified - 21 completed, 3 partially completed, and several in advanced design
- Detailed analysis of 27 high-risk catchments
- Collaboration with Main Roads WA to improve stormwater retention along Stirling Highway.
📢 What’s next?
A new community education initiative will support residents in managing private flood risks. This includes:
- Upgrading crossovers to meet current standards
- Regular maintenance of strip drains and private drainage systems.
