WMRC Recycling Centre participation survey
Background info
In May 2023, the City of Nedlands joined the West Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) as a participating Council, giving our residents free access to the West Metro Recycling Centre in Shenton Park. This partnership has enabled households to dispose of a wide range of recyclable items beyond what’s collected through regular kerbside services.
As the agreement approaches its renewal, the City is reviewing the value and usage of this service. The annual cost to maintain this agreement is approximately $80,000, or around $9.50 per household for the 2025/26 financial year. This cost is currently included in the annual Residential Waste Services fee, applied to all households regardless of whether they use the facility.
The City already provides a range of waste and recycling services, including:
- Weekly kerbside bin collections
- Twice-yearly bulk verge collections
- Three community recycling stations (at Council Administration and both Libraries)
The WMRC service is supplementary to these existing options.
We would like to hear from all residents, whether you use the Recycling Centre or not.
Your feedback will help Council decide whether to continue this agreement and ensure our waste services reflect the needs and values of our community.
