Tresillian Arts Centre is proud to present the 24th annual Student & Tutor Exhibition, a vibrant celebration of artistic achievement and community creativity. This year’s exhibition is especially significant as it coincides with the 45th anniversary of the Tresillian Arts Centre, which has been a cornerstone of arts and culture in the local community since 1980.
Held at the Tresillian Arts Centre, the exhibition runs from 3 October to 18 October, open daily from 10am to 4pm. The official opening event will take place at 6pm on 3 October, with special guest, City of Nedlands’ Deputy Chair of Commissioners, Ms Bianca Sandri, officiating.
Featuring almost 300 artworks by over 100 artists, the exhibition showcases the diverse talents of both students and professional tutors. Works range from abstract painting and watercolour landscapes to ceramics and textiles, reflecting the breadth of courses offered at Tresillian over the past year.
Each student has submitted up to two pieces that demonstrate their learning journey, while tutors contribute works that represent their own artistic practice and teaching style. Many Tresillian students have gone on to exhibit in prestigious art prizes such as the Cossack Art Award and the City of Belmont Art Award.
“We are proud of this highly acclaimed exhibition. It has commenced the careers of many artists who have gone on to achieve great success,” said Lisa Macfarlane Reid, Manager Community Development.
This year’s exhibition also celebrates the contributions of significant West Australian artists who teach at Tresillian, including:
- Ric Burkitt – Abstract Painting
- Melanie Sharpham – Ceramics
- Judy Rogers – Portraiture
- Sue Hibbert – Watercolour
- Pip Hoy – Textiles and Nedlands resident studio artist
Artworks are available for purchase, with prices ranging from $60 to $5000, making this a perfect opportunity to support emerging artists and invest in affordable, original art.
Awards and prizes
The exhibition includes several Highly Commended Student Awards, announced at the opening event:
- Any medium – Sponsored by Jackson’s Drawing Supplies
- Watercolour – Sponsored by Art & Craft World Morley
- Acrylics – Sponsored by Oxlades Art Supplies
- Ceramics – Sponsored by The Potters Market
Visitors are also invited to vote for their favourite piece in the People’s Choice Award, with the winning artist receiving a $500 prize sponsored by the City of Nedlands. Voters will go into the draw to win a $200 Tresillian voucher.
A growing community tradition
The exhibition has grown significantly over the past decade, with the number of artworks increasing by over 25% in the last five years and nearly doubling in size over ten years. It continues to be a cornerstone event for the local arts community, celebrating creativity, connection and lifelong learning.
Join us in celebrating 45 years of Tresillian Arts Centre and the incredible talent nurtured within its walls.
