Street trees are trees planted and managed by the City within road reserves, typically on street verges. While they provide many of the same environmental, social and aesthetic benefits as trees in parks and reserves, street trees grow alongside roads, footpaths, driveways, homes and public infrastructure. This means their selection, planting and management must balance community benefits with safety, access and service requirements.
This page provides information about requesting a street tree and the policies and guidelines that help the City manage our street tree network.
Trees are an important part of what makes the City of Nedlands a cool, green and liveable community. They provide shade, improve walkability, support local wildlife, enhance neighbourhood character and help reduce the urban heat island effect. Protecting and enhancing the urban forest is a key priority of the Urban Forest Strategy 2025-2035.
The City's urban forest also contributes to community wellbeing, improves air quality, captures carbon and helps manage stormwater. Together, these benefits support a more resilient and sustainable environment for current and future generations.

Request a Street Tree
To enhance the City's urban forest, Council encourages the planting of at least one street tree along every property frontage. Appropriate species are selected according to local site conditions, the presence of underground and overhead services, and the available space for planting.
Street tree planting is undertaken during the winter planting season, between June and September each year. Applications are now open for the 2027 Winter Street Tree Planting Season. If you are a City of Nedlands landowner, now is the time to request your free street tree and contribute to our urban forest.
Applications for the 2027 planting season are now open. Applications close on 28 February 2027.
To request a new or replacement street tree, complete the form below.
Please note that submission of a Tree Request Form does not guarantee a tree will be planted.
