The City is proud to announce Alicia Italiano as the winner of the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Emerge Youth Art Awards, recognising her outstanding ceramic work inspired by the vibrant architecture of Cinque Terre, Italy.

Alicia’s multimodal model captivated audiences with its intricate detail and heartfelt concept. Drawing inspiration from the colourful cliffside villages of Cinque Terre — a place she has long dreamed of visiting — Alicia brought a slice of Italian life to the gallery, inviting viewers to experience the charm and character of the region through her eyes.

“I thought I would take the opportunity to bring it to life and allow myself and others to have a glimpse into the Italian way of life.”

Her creative process involved constructing the façades of each building before carefully forming the remaining walls using the traditional slip and score method. Each structure was completed with a rooftop, resulting in three hollow, three-dimensional buildings that reflect both technical skill and artistic vision.

Alicia said she thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Emerge exhibition and seeing the diverse range of artworks on display.

“It was amazing to see the different artworks produced by all the talented artists included in the exhibition,” she said.

When asked what advice she would give to other young artists considering entering Emerge next year, Alicia encouraged them to draw inspiration from places that hold personal meaning.

“Take inspiration from places around the world that you connect with.”

The City extends its sincere thanks to Jacksons Drawing Supplies and Oxlades Art Supplies for their generous support of the Emerge Youth Art Awards, helping to nurture and celebrate the next generation of creative talent.

Congratulations to Alicia on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to everyone who voted and supported the outstanding young artists who participated in Emerge.
