The City of Nedlands has welcomed the official opening of Nedlands Square this morning, marking a major milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Nedlands Town Centre.
Home to a new Woolworths supermarket, specialty retailers and a range of services, the development will enhance local amenity, create employment opportunities and provide a dynamic new centre that will benefit residents and the wider community.
The opening was marked by a formal ceremony that began with a Welcome to Country by Barry Winmar (Noongar leader and Elder), recognising the cultural heritage connection of the Whadjuk Noongar people to the land. Representatives from Woolworths and the development team addressed attendees, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the project and the opportunities it will create for residents, businesses and visitors.
Mayor Leonie Browner joined project partners, retailers and community stakeholders to celebrate the occasion and acknowledge the important role Nedlands Square will play in shaping the future of the city.
"The opening of a new Woolworths supermarket, together with 22 specialty stores, represents far more than a shopping destination. It is a statement of confidence in the future of Nedlands," Mayor Browner said.
Spanning approximately 7,600 square metres of commercial floor space, Nedlands Square brings together a diverse mix of retail, hospitality, health, recreation and professional services in a prominent Stirling Highway location.
Mayor Browner said the development reflects the City's vision for a modern, accessible and thriving town centre.
"Nedlands Square is helping bring that vision to life by creating a vibrant destination where people can shop locally, access services, and enjoy a meal or coffee in a welcoming environment. I congratulate everyone involved in delivering this exciting project and wish all tenants every success in the years ahead."
The celebrations concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, after which guests had the opportunity to explore Woolworths and the new precinct, experiencing firsthand the transformation of this key town centre site.
