Following a Council Resolution on 27 September 2022, the City has officially appointed a Director of Technical Services following a rigorous recruitment process.

The successful candidate is Mr Matthew MacPherson, who will commence with the City in January 2023.

Matthew MacPherson has an outstanding reputation in the local government sector, most recently as Manager Infrastructure Management Services at the City of Joondalup. Prior to this, he was Executive Manager Technical Services at the Town of Mosman Park (2014 – 2020).

The City also acknowledges the efforts of Mr Andrew Melville, who has acted in the position of Director of Techncial Services over the past twelve months.

“During his tenure, Andrew’s dedication and commitment has been felt across all areas of the City. Andrew was instrumental in leading the team that helped the City navigate its new Assets Management Plan."

City of Nedlands CEO, Bill Parker, said “the City received a tremendous field of applications in a highly competitive market. Matthew was a unanimous choice of the interviewing panel based on his extensive local government experience and demonstrated ability to deliver large and complex capital works projects.”

“Matthew’s strong leadership skills and community focus make him a terrific addition to an Executive Team committed to driving the City towards stability and certainty in 2023 and beyond," Mr Parker said.

The Director Technical Services plays an integral role in providing leadership and strategic direction to the Technical Services directorate encompassing the Assets, City Projects and Programs, and Parks Services departments.

Mr MacPherson said he looks forward to working closely with the Mayor and Councillors to retain and enhance the bushlands, parks, beach and riverfront areas that make Nedlands unique.

“I’m inspired by the direction the City of Nedlands is heading,” Mr MacPherson said. “I’m looking forward to helping progress strategic projects and make Nedlands a great place to live.”
