It's time to start thinking about who you know who is doing amazing things in our local community!

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our local area. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we're all part of the story.

Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community. For the full criteria, visit www.citizenshipawards.com.au/criteria

New research from Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which delivers the Awards in partnership with local councils across Western Australia, supports the presence of such community award programs for the social, cultural and economic impact they make.

In a survey of 2023 recipients, 86% of respondents said the Awards assisted in generating better community connections, and 75% said it helped increase public awareness of their cause or organisation and built social cohesion. Furthermore, 88% said it was a great way to shine a light on community issues.

Nominations for the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards are now open until 31 October 2023 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate
