Two weeks of community consultation for the City of Nedlands proposed underground power rollout will launch this Friday, 26 May.
All residents and ratepayer are invited to have their say on a proposal to connect the City’s remaining residences without unground power to the program – via the online ‘Your Voice’ portal.
Independent survey company Data Analysis Australia will compile the community consultation results and report aggregated responses back to Council.
Recent estimates suggest the total project will cost $28.7 million, with the City required to contribute $19.03m.
Although the City would pay this amount in advance, under the City’s Underground Power Policy, 50 per cent of the City’s contribution is recoverable from residences being connected to the program.
DAA will directly consult these residences as part of the community consultation process.
In a business case developed for the project, increased property values, improved reliability of electricity supply and improved amenity for the areas receiving underground power were identified as some of the potential benefits.
The project, however, will result in a reduction in the City’s borrowing capacity, existing projects being delayed or cancelled and potentially not being able to fund new projects.
For more information on this project and to participate in the community survey visit the City's YourVoice Page.
