Underground Power Project Update – May 2025

Project Area: Nedlands North (Floreat)

Western Power has completed roughly 60% of the Nedlands North Project (as at 14 May 2025) with 93 properties changed over. Practical Completion for Nedlands North has been delayed to early August due to Switching Resource constraints. Nedlands North (Floreat) ratepayers will receive a letter early June with information about their total service charge cost and are asked to complete an enclosed form to indicate their preferred repayment method. Service charges for Nedlands North will appear in the FY2025/26 Rates Notice being issued in August 2025.

Project Area: Nedlands West (Mt Claremont)

Western Power has completed 17% of the Nedlands West Project (as at 14 May 2025) with drilling and cabling installations underway in zones 1, 2 and 4. The Nedlands West Project construction schedule was brought forward by Western Power, thus bringing forward the City’s mandatory instalment payment dates. As such, ratepayers in Nedlands West (Mt Claremont) will now have their service charges imposed in the FY2025/26 Rates Notice being issued in August 2025. A letter will be issued to all ratepayers in the Nedlands North project area in early June with information about their total service charge cost. Ratepayers are asked to complete an enclosed form to indicate their preferred repayment method.

Project Area: Hollywood East

Western Power is undertaking underground services locating, through May/June 2025, as part of their preliminary investigations to develop the detailed design for the underground power works for Hollywood East. Western Power will utilise ground penetrating radar (GPR) which is a non-invasive geophysical method to detect underground services and other subsurface features usually without the need for digging or drilling. If digging or drilling is necessary, Western Power will leave the area in its original state upon completion.
