The City of Nedlands’ annual tree planting season is about to begin, supporting our commitment to a greener, healthier and more resilient urban environment.

This winter, the City will be planting over 650 new trees, helping to expand and strengthen our urban forest across our community.

This year’s planting program places a strong emphasis on increasing tree diversity, with a broader mix of species being introduced across the City.

The program supports the City’s recently released Urban Forest Strategy 2025–2035, which sets out a long-term vision for growing and protecting Nedlands’ tree canopy. Key priorities of the Strategy include:

  • Expanding and strengthening the City’s urban forest
  • Increasing species and genetic diversity
  • Addressing age diversity to ensure long-term sustainability
  • Enhancing habitat connectivity and protecting biodiversity
  • Increasing overall canopy cover across the City

By taking a strategic and proactive approach to tree planting, the City is creating a more diverse, resilient and sustainable urban forest - delivering environmental benefits, supporting local biodiversity and enhancing the amenity of our community.

As planting gets underway from Monday 6 July, residents will start to see new trees taking root, contributing to a cooler, greener and healthier future for everyone.
