Nedlands birdlife will now have a reliable drinking source for the hot summer months thanks to the construction of a bird watering station at Hollywood Reserve.
The Friends of Hollywood Reserve donated $2000 to the City for the project after receiving a flood of community support following the January 2022 bushfires with the City covering the remaining $6,900 for this valuable conservation initiative.

The water station is the first of seven to be constructed at significant conservation locations throughout the City. Each station has four water troughs located three to four metres off the ground, the station is connected to mains water and is set to refill automatically.
The Hollywood Reserve water station has been installed under tree canopy providing a safe environment for the small Pardalotes and Brown Honeyeaters as well as larger birds. The vulnerable Red-tailed Black Cockatoos and the endangered Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo both have roost sites in the region and frequently visit the reserve.
Wooden perches on the watering station will provide a surface for the Black Cockatoos to sharpen their beaks and maintain their claws. The perches provide a safe place for all birds to roost from predators.
