Entries are now open for one of WA’s premier youth art exhibitions – Emerge Youth Art Awards.
Emerge Youth Art Awards offers young artists the unique opportunity to showcase their work in a professionally curated exhibition at Tresillian Arts Centre, Tyrell Street, Nedlands, between 22 July and 18 August.
Cash prizes of up to $500 will also be awarded across four different award categories during the exhibition.
A total prize pool of $2,250 is on offer:
- Open Award First Prize - $500
- Open Award Commendation - $250
- Resident’s Award First Prize - $500
- Resident’s Award Commendation - $250
- People’s choice award - $500
- Under 18 Award - $250.
Young artists are invited to enter artwork of any medium. Winning pieces in the past have included sculptures, mixed media, photography, drawings, ceramics, and paintings.
“Emerge is an incredible opportunity for young artists to showcase their talent at our iconic Tresillian Arts Centre," Mayor Fiona Argyle said.
“We’re calling on all the best up-and-coming artists in the City of Nedlands and beyond to submit their work.
“Last year’s exhibition was a tremendous success, with more than 120 entries and over 200 people in attendance at Tresillian for the opening night.
Jessica Chen’s ‘Masked Painting’ (attached) won the Open Award in 2022. Judges complimented Jessica’s “beautiful use and knowledge of colour and technique” while “capturing a sense of current times by including the mask in her self-portrait”.
The exhibition is open for emerging artists aged between 12 and 25. Entries close 14 July.
