Upgrades to the Swanbourne-Nedlands Surf Lifesaving Club have hit an important milestone with the successful installation of the precast concrete panels.
Beachgoers were greeted to an unusual site as a 250-tonne crane expertly lowered panels into place. The panels were cast off site enabling simultaneous building of the masonry walls and a smoother transition to the next phase of the project. If the concrete had been poured on site works would have been halted for 30 days whilst the concrete cured, but the pre-cast panels allowed works to begin on the second floor immediately.
The next milestone will be the structural steel installation.
The Surf Club redevelopment is due for completion in April 2023 and is on track to be delivered within budget.
The total cost of the project is $2,579,000 with funding coming from the State and Federal Governments, LotteryWest, Swanbourne-Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club and the City of Nedlands.
The Swanbourne-Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1932 and is the 7th oldest club in Western Australia. City of Nedlands Mayor Fiona Argyle is a Patron of the Club.
